Arsenal is about to miss out on another transfer soon as league rivals Manchester United are rumoured to be in on a potential move for Borussia Dortmund’s center-back Neven Subotic as Ferguson gets ready to replace Rio and Vidic with fresher blood.
Even though Smalling, Jones and Evans are always ready to step in when needed in the center of the defence, Ferguson is set to transfer the 23-year-old German who also imposed himself as a first team player at the Serbian national squad.
Wenger was interested in the defender even before Mertesacker was brought at the club last summer, but Borussia was unwilling to let him go at the time. According to the papers if Arsenal will still want to secure his services they would have to pay more than £20 million to Dortmund next summer.
With the competition for the center-back position at Arsenal at a high with Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Djourou and Miquel all fighting for a chance, Wenger is unlikely to go with an offer for the 23-year-old Serbian, but as he just said before the transfer window ended, you never know in football.
