The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has apparently eyed the possibility to transfer one of the most sought after midfielders in Europe, as he’s preparing to go for Benfica’s Axel Witsel.
The 23-year-old Belgian has joined the Portuguese side last summer from Standard Liege for a rumoured fee of €10 million, and after only one season clubs like Manchester United, City, Liverpool and Arsenal have all taken an interest in the possibility of transferring him.
Although he only managed to score 4 goals in 34 games during his stay at Benfica, Witsel is rendered to be one of the most important players in the club and according to the newspapers the Portuguese are only ready to let him leave for fees in excess of £25 million.
Now, even though he’s really a talented lad, for that kind of money Wenger is better off targeting Hazard because the other, more offensive Belgian midfielder is surely worth the money more than Witsel.
The 23-year-old broke into the Belgian national side at only 19-years-old and he managed to play 27 games ever since and score 5 goals. Again, compared to Hazard that’s nothing, but Wenger could take Witsel into account as well if the deal with Eden won’t come to a successful end.
