It’s well known already that Arsenal have often relied on the skills of the excellent center-back Thomas Vermaelen in both offensive and defensive stages.
In the defense he has proved to be by far the most reliable and the most important man in the team, and more often than not he showed his incredible intuition and skills in the attack as well managing to score on several occasionsrecently and create panic in opponent boxes with his through runs on goal.
Despite his usual excellent performances, Vermaelen had an off-day against QPR today being largely guilty at both goals. At the first goal the opposing player Adel Taarabt managed to trick him and take a wonderful shot from the edge of the penalty area past Szczesny, and at the second goal he slipped in front of Jamie Mackie who provided the assist for Diakite.
The Belgian international must be feeling pretty low this evening and must be kicking himself for contributing to Arsenal’s only bad performance in the whole month of March. Let us hope that he can pick himself up and return to his normal brilliance in time for the match against Man City.
