Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on record signing Mesut Ozil, describing him as a unique breed. Ozil’s arrival was similar to Arsenal’s former Dutch legend Dennis Bergkamp’s arrival many years ago. The Gunners would be hoping for the German to have the same impact, loyalty and longevity at the club.
Wenger isn’t new to the German as he had him on his radar while he was still at Werder Bremen before making his switch to Real Madrid. Hence, he knows his qualities and believes they are the ones that differentiate a good player from a great one.
[He has brought] technical quality, vision and his absolute desire to play collectively in a very strong way,” the manager said.
“He is a player who has only one master, that is football. He does what the game demands, his ego does not stand in the way of his game, all the great players have that.”
Ozil believes Arsenal have what it takes to maintain their current form till the end of the season, which would guarantee them Premier League success.
“Whoever, after ten games, is five points ahead, also has the potential to stand in front at the end of the season,” he said.
“To be honest, at Arsenal everything is fun. The coach, the players and life in London – I really feel comfortable.”
There will be weight of expectation firmly placed on Ozil’s shoulders as the Gunners travel to Germany to play Dortmund in a must win Champions League clash. After the loss to the Germans at the Emirates, Arsenal cannot afford another dropped points if they hope to survive the group of death. Arsenal have 3 Germans traveling (Mertesacker, Gnabry and Ozil) for the clash but the name on everyone lips will be Mesut Ozil.
