Sagna Rejects Inter Milan, Set To Stay In The EPL, Receives Tempting Three Years Offer

Bacary Sagna has apparently rejected Inter Milan’s advances and opted to stay in the Premier League.

Sagna has rejected the serie A in favour of the premier league but it may not be with Arsenal also. Inter have long been linked with a summer move for the French international after their newly acquired wealth allowed them to pursue high profile stars. Inter made no secret of the fact that they were looking for a fullback neither of the fact that they were interested in Sagna.

Inter owner Eric Thohir has come out to quash the rumours saying Sagna had rejected talks with them but did say that Inter still maintained an interest in Frenchman.

“Sagna has decided to stay in the premier league. But it will be necessary to strengthen that area of the field. About Evra we did not have any contact,” said Thohir.

Arsenal fans could be forgiven for heaving a sigh of relief at Thohir confirming that Sagna wants to stay in the premier league, but new links have emanated from the English press linking the right back to Manchester City. Reports claim City have offered him a three year contract with big wages to boot.

City are a team that seem to be going in a direction that Arsenal did when Sagna joined Arsenal. They have the financial prowess to accommodate his wage demands and are perennial challengers for trophies. All this must seem delicious for a player who has been starved of success his whole career.

While it is hard to predict which way this transfer will turn, it must also be kept in mind that these could be stories fed to the media by Sagna’s agent in order to force Arsenal’s hand in negotiations. Sagna has been loyal to Arsenal in the wake of serious interest from bigger clubs and there is no reason he wouldn’t want to stay at Arsenal for a little while longer.
