This summer is shaping up to be an interesting one as Arsenal could be getting one over their fierce Premier League rivals. Arsenal are in the hunt for a striker so are Manchester United. According to reports, the Old Trafford outfit are looking to add more quality to their striking department that already boast of Rooney, Van Persie, Welbeck and Hernandez. The latter duo are expected to depart Old Trafford this summer as they are not assured of regular first team football under new Dutch boss Louis Van Gaal.
To this end, the Red Devils have turned their attention to PSG’s Uruguayan striker Edison Cavani. The former Napoli striker looks disillusioned with life at Parc de Princes no thanks to him playing deputy to star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic since his big money move to the French Champions. Owing to his failure to displace Zlatan as the main striker, he has had to play in an unfamiliar role on the wings and that has certainly not gone down well with the Uruguayan. His discontent has encouraged top teams to set machineries in motion to lure him away from PSG.
Now, the reports emanating from the English and French media have it that Cavani has poured cold water on a likely switch to Manchester United because of their absence on the European front. That is not a surprise as a player who has enjoyed European football even at minnows Napoli would now face the ignominy of missing out at Manchester United.
Manchester United’s loss could be Arsenal’s gain. The Gunners are in the market for striking reinforcements and have been linked with a plethora of them across all European clubs.
Cavani is undoubtedly a very good striker in the class of the marquee striker we are looking for and unlike previous seasons when there was quality in the market but unfortunately, Arsenal didn’t have the funds to push through a deal, Arsenal have money now, according to Gazidis, the Gunners can afford almost all the players except Messi and Ronaldo. With the lure of Champions League football, we are well placed to land him. The fact that at Arsenal, he would be the main man as he has a higher profile than Giroud. He would also get to play in his preferred central forward role.
Besides the financial might and playing in the central forward role, the attraction of playing with creative forces like Ozil, Cazorla and Walcott with the likelihood of Fabregas joining too makes it more attractive. Very few teams have the huge pool of Arsenal’s creative talents and every good striker wants a great creative force behind them since it makes goal scoring an easy feat for them.
Cavani has played at Napoli and PSG but none of them has offered him the calibre of creative talents awaiting him at Arsenal. Arsenal are an attractive proposition for Cavani but the Gunners would have to match tempt PSG into a sale with a considerable reasonable offer.
