The transfer window sometimes brings about events that were hitherto unimaginable. Last summer several managerial merry go round within some top clubs in Europe sparked the movement of players in different directions across the continent. Rafeal Benitez to Napoli, Laurent Blanc to PSG and Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid, meant players like Mezut Ozil moved from Real Madrid to Arsenal, Edinson Cavani left Napoli for PSG, Gonzalo Higuian swapped Madrid for Napoli and Gareth Bale went to Real Madrid.
This summer events are already shaping up along these lines especially as it concerns movement of players from one club to another. Already there are reports linking Radamel Falcao with a departure to Real Madrid which leaves a room for a club to come in for Karim Benzema.
In this direction, Arsenal might come into the picture to snap up the Frenchman as a possible signing of the Colombian by Real Madrid would mean some bench time for Benzema which would open the door for a transfer out of the Spanish capital. With the reputation of the Frenchman, he is unlikely to settle for a place on the bench. Which means that the same fate that befell Gonzalo Higuian when he was deemed surplus to requirement by the Real Madrid hierarchy can fall on Benzema.
Another angle to this, is that, Falcao going to the European champions provides an headache for the coaches as Falcao, Ronaldo and Benzema cannot all play together at the same time. It means something has to give.
Which brings Angel Di Maria into the picture. Real Madrid had wanted to sell him last summer to fund the transfer of Gareth Bale, instead Mezut Ozil was sacrificed. The possibility of Falcao moving to Real Madrid, means a change of role and a tweak of tactics might have to be adopted by the Madrid giant which would be that some players will not be satisfied at the lack of playing time. As the Argentine had expressed his dissatisfaction at the fact that he was linked last summer away from Madrid because of the arrival of Bale from Spurs.
And the chances of this happening again this summer cannot be ruled out, if Falcao ends up at Madrid. This could mean that Angel Di Maria could end up at Arsenal, with Cristano Ronaldo moving to the No 10 role, Benzema moving to the wings and Falcao used at the tip of the attack in the striker’s position in a new Madrid formation.
It leaves a possible door open for the capture of the Argentine winger from Real Madrid by those at the Emirates as it would mean he has no place in the starting eleven. There is no doubt that as the event in the summer shifts to over drive, the transfer go round will begin to take shape.
