Arsenal In Talks To Sign Belgian Striker

The club’s knack for signing youngsters seem to continue, as reports have emerged that Arsenal are in negotiations with Anderlecht over the signing of 18 year old Belgian striker David Henen. The player who was on loan at Monaco B last season, comes highly rated as an emerging talent having been scouted by several big clubs around Europe.

The 18 year old was born in Luxembourg before he joined the youth set up at Standard Liege at the age of 12. He however , moved to Anderlecht after spending three years at Liege. He has represented Belgium in the U15, U16 and U18 levels. Known for his pace and height, he joins the conveyor belt of merging talents from the Belgium football industry.

According to reports in Belgium, he is expected to arrive with a fee of £1 million. His possible signing could mean the club might end up signing three teenagers at the end of the transfer window.

The report of his possible signing is expected to come under the scale of underwhelming in the eyes of many fans. The striker report says his expected to be loaned back when the deal is completed.

In the books at Arsenal are several young players who happen to be strikers. The continuous signing of more players who are at the same age bracket with those at the youth set up could put the likes of Benik Afobe, Chuba Akpom and Alex Iwobi in strange positions.

Although, the club cannot pass on an emerging talent when one is available, like the young Belgian, it is whether players in such a situation, will ever have the opportunity of featuring for the club. The likes of Wellington Silva, Joel Campbell and several others came with a huge reputation, yet they have not featured for the club years after they were signed.

The only difference from the signing of the Belgian and that of the youngsters that have been signed over the years from the Americas is that there won’t be need for a work permit which makes the possibility of him making his first team debut at the earliest possible.

The direction of the club will always be to bring in young players when one is in the market. While they can not all be a success in the long run, as for every Francis Coquelin, there is an Aaron Ramsey. How the future of a youngster will pan out depends on different factors that only time can reveal.
