£7.5 million Star Goes AWOL, Holding Out For Arsenal Move – Reports

The number of players that are being linked to the club has continued to increase in number through out the summer. The new cart in the wheel is Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier, the 23 year old was the subject of a transfer last summer to Arsenal, when Lyon reportedly rejected a bid of £6 million an amount Lyon president described as derisory last summer. Though the player had one year left on his contract then, and Arsene Wenger is known to value players based on what is left of their contract. He subsequently signed a contract extension.

According to claims in France reported by the express, the player is reportedly holding out for a transfer to Arsenal. The 23 year old winger who can also play behind the striker his reportedly keen for a change of club after his season last time out ended in disappointment when his World Cup dream was ended by injury before the French Squad was due to leave for Brazil.

The Chance!

Following Arsenal’s outlay of Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Calum Chambers in the transfer market, the needs of the club becomes obvious when a cursory look is taken at the players that have been signed. The likelihood of Arsene Wenger bringing in another winger or playmaker could be improbable at best. With the club still in need of a centre half, a holding midfielder and even a striker, whether le prof will wet his palm with another player out wide is not known.

With Arsenal conducting it transfer quite early, a complete departure from previous transfer windows, it means there could be room for the club to still add to the squad in the last weeks of the transfer window. The cliché that old habits die hard could still make it possible for Arsene Wenger to dabble into the market when an opportunity presents itself in the last hours of the window. He did say after the Boreham friendly last week that it takes more than the buying club to make a transfer happen as there are three parties involved. He added further that why some players not available in the early part of the transfer window, could become available in the last days of the window, ala Mesut Ozil.

In the case of Clement Grenier, he might have been an Arsenal target in the past especially last season, and the injury he sustained before the World Cup prevented many to see him at the show piece tournament, which means he is available for a reasonable fee should an opportunity arrives for him to move.
