Granit Xhaka has given the greatest indication that he could be on his way to Arsenal this summer by describing the Gunners as an “awesome club”. This is coming two days after the Switzerland star’s club Borussia Monchengladbach revealed they have accepted an offer from Arsenal for the highly rated midfielder.
Arsenal have been in the last few weeks been linked with the signing of the former FC Basel star with many reports claiming Wenger and the player’s father who is also his agent had met in German for a discussion which were fruitful.
Arsenal have reportedly made a bid of £33.8m bid for the player which is club has officially confirmed.
“There has been a specific offer for the Swiss midfielder [Xhaka].
“[We have] an agreement with the interested club but [it] is still pending.”
With reports claiming personal terms have been agreed between the club and the player and now the playing himself coming out to speak on the reports, it appears it is only a matter of time before the deal is done and announced.
“As of today I am Gladbach. But London is beautiful city – and Arsenal is an awesome club “.
This is a clear indication that the player is on his way to London rather than Manchester. Manchester City have also been linked with his signing but with this report, it is safe to assume the deal is almost done and he will be signing for Arsenal.
Should Xhaka sign for Arsenal, it will be a massive statement of intent but will bring to question the future of Francis Coquelin at the Emirates. Judging by the last four games in the just concluded season, it appears Wenger likes Mohamed Elneny and with Cazorla and Wilshere back to the team, it will remain to be seen how Coquelin will get chances.
One thing is certain, Wenger is not going to buy a player for £33.8m and then keep him on the bench.
