According to an official statement from Arsenal, Chiori Johnson has signed a new long term contract with the club after impressing with the Gunners’ under 18 side in the FA youth Cup team that got to the Semi finals before been ousted by Manchester City.
The high rated Nigerian graduated from the club’s Hale End academy. He has been a key member of the under 18 team this season and was part of the team that got to the second round of the UEFA Youth league this season.
The versatile defender who is 18 is now in line for a loan move next season. However, with reports claiming Gibbs could leave the club next and no news of any player been bought to replace him with Wenger himself confirming the club will only be making three big signings this summer, it will not be a surprise if Chiori Johnson is seen playing for the first team next season in the cup games.
With Johnson signing a new long term deal, hopefully the club will not be found wanting when it comes to bringing in players for the first team. It is okay settling the youth teams, they are the future of the club, but hopefully Wenger will not forget the first team while trying to protect the future.
