Reports in the English press in recent time have alluded to the fact that Arsenal are in the market for a new Centre back this summer. This is quite understandable especially if you consider the fact that Per Mertesacker will be 32 in September and considering he is very slow, he can only get slower as he gets older. Also, Gabriel Paulista who partnered Koscienly in the just concluded season has shown himself not to be reliable.
Arsenal are reported to be ready to sign Bolton Wanderers’ Rob Holding. Holding was one of the best defenders in the Championship in the just concluded season. Although Bolton were relegated, he still made it into the Championship team of the year which speaks volume of his quality.
Tottenham are also said to be interested in the player but Bolton have made it clear they will only be doing business with the Gunners. Obviously because of the cordial relationship that exists between the Wanderers and Arsenal.
Bolton however want £7 million for the player which is a little steep for a player whose club will be playing in the third tier of English football next season. Arsenal were reported to have tabled a bid of £3 million for the player and it remains to be seen if they will be willing to increase the offer and get a deal done.
