The media has it that Arsene Wenger is in search of a striker and a defender after announcing Xhaka. And several names are making the headlines including Alvaro Morata of Juventus and Mauro Icardi of Inter Milan. But a new name has made it to the list.
Arsenal, according to reports, are looking at a possible move for striker Islam Slimani. The Sporting CP striker seems set for a move to the Premier League as clubs like Tottenham and Leicester are said to be closely watching the Algerian and trying to see if he will sign for them.
But with £100m in the bank – money made from TV rights by Arsenal this season – Arsenal are in pole position to make the player a Gunner without breaking a sweat… or even breaking the bank! With 27 league goals and six assists for Sporting CP last season, it is understandable that clubs like Leicester City want to sign Slimani.
It’s also a good omen for Arsenal who were desperately lacking a real goal-poacher last season. With a price tag of £23.2m, and with that kind of money in the bank, Arsenal will take this one seriously. Reports by Daily Mirror indicate that Arsenal are readying an official bid for the striker whose current contract expires in the summer of 2020.
