Napoli have recently rejected a £30 million offer from Bayern Munich for highly rated centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly according to the Express.
Koulibaly is one the best centre-backs in the transfer market judging by his impressive performance last season. The Senegalese still has room for improvement as his age of 24 shows, which might see him become the best centre-back in the world. Napoli are against selling the highly rated defender as coach Maurizio Sarri sees him as indispensable and one of his untouchables .
The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have been linked with the defender all season. Arsenal are in the running to also sign Bayern Munich injury prone centre back Mehdi Benatia which could have been possible if Napoli accepted Bayern’s bid making the sale of Benatia to Arsenal less difficult .
With Laurent Koscieny in excellent form last season and tipped to inherit the captain’s armband from retired Mikel Arteta, Arsene Wenger is looking desperate for a top class centre-back to make his team formidable like the invincible team of 2003.
However every hope , Arsenal fans may have had of signing the Senegalese might have diminished given that Wenger is seen as someone who will not shell out more than £30 million for a defender . The main problem is the form of Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker who have been unable to consistently perform at the very top level for a long time now .
