After completing the signing of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach of Germany despite the reported late interest in the player by Manchester City, Arsenal are edging close to completing their second summer transfer business according to a report by the Telegraph.
This player is Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli. The highly regarded African plays mainly as a centre back for Napoli but can also play as a right back and as a left back when necessary. Telegraph claims Arsenal is preparing a bid of €25.6m for the player which they believe is good enough to convince Napoli to sell the player.
Kalidou Koulibaly has also been linked with a move to Chelsea but Wenger is said to be confident of beating the west Londoners to the signing of the player and that could be made easier by the fact that Chelsea won’t be playing in the Champions league next season while Arsenal and Napoli will be. I simply can’t see Kalidou Koulibaly leaving Napoli where he is assured of playing in the Champions league next season for the first team to go to Chelsea where he won’t be playing in the Champions League.
Wenger reportedly sees Kalidou Koulibaly as the ideal partner for Laurent Koscienly which if true will mean both Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista will be back up options next season.
