After signing Granit Xhaka a month before the summer transfer window officially opens, Arsenal are said to be close to signing yet another important player according to a report by Telegraph’s Jeremy Wilson. According to Telegraph, Arsenal have made an offer of €25.6m for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly which they hope will be good enough to convince his club to sell the player.
The 24-year-old defender was one of the best defenders, if not the best, in the serie A last season. He was voted into the Serie A team of the year which explains why Arsenal could be interested in him. His versatility makes it even better considering Wenger likes his players to be versatile.
With Per Mertesacker and Paulista not looking like they can be dependent on next season, signing Kalidou Koulibaly will make a lot of sense. He can play both as a left back and as a right back when needed – as would when our annual injury crisis strikes.
€25.6m for a player who is voted as one of the best defenders in a league known for been so defensive as the serie A is very cheap. Manolas who is said to also be a target didn’t fair better than the African but will cost €35 million.
