Last month news emerged that Chelsea and Juventus were battling for the signature of contract rebel Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund. Arsenal was not in the picture but fast forward one month later, Arsenal are said to be the likeliest destination for the player.
According to reports, Mkhitaryan is not considering Juventus at all and because Chelsea won’t be playing in the Champions League next season, the Armenian is not ready to join them. Reports from the German media last night claim Arsenal are in fact very close to signing him as Dortmund have lessened their initial stance.
It was initially reported that Dortmund won’t be selling the player even if he does not sign a new deal preferring to allow him see out his contract. However, Kicker claimed last night that Dortmund will consider selling the Bundesliga player of the year if he refuses their offer of a new contract.
Dortmund on their part are said to be in the market for his replacement. They are working on signing Riccardo Saponara from Empoli as his replacement. Arsenal chief deal maker Dick Law was reportedly in Germany on Friday to hold talks with Dortmund and for Arsenal to have sent him to Germany, it can only mean the Gunners are convinced there is a chance of signing Mkhitaryan.
The Signing of the Armenian international will be a good one for Arsenal fans especially as many are by now tired of seeing Theo Walcott go missing in games.
