English man Jamie Vardy’s choice of stalling his transfer to Arsenal until after the European Championship finals could come as good news to Arsenal faithful, who will have enough time to access the player better at the Euro’s where he is currently preparing to represent his country.
Vardy, who finished last season as the second place top scorer is seen by some section of the media as a not-too-good signing for the Gunners, but the delay in decision by Vardy could give Arsenal faithful ampoule opportunity to ruminate on the signing. It is understandable that Arsenal are in pursuit of Vardy in other to compliment new recruit Granit Xhaka who signed on for a fee believed to be £30m.
Arsenal manager Arsenal Wenger was heavily criticized for failure to sign a top notch striker last summer. Wenger’s decision to sign two or more players, including a striker shows his intent to securing silverwares for the club next season. Most Arsenal fans will be glad to have a goal poacher like Vardy in the team after a failed attempt to bring in Louis Suarez seasons back.
Arsenal faithfuls have long ago lost faith in French man Oliver Giroud, and would be glad with the prospect of seeing Vardy in the Arsenal jersey.
The French striker’s goal drought towards the end of last season has made him less popular among Emirate fans. He was also seen booed during International duty. Another question on the lips of Arsenal fans is how Wenger will set up the team next season should Vardy sign on, a lone striker with flying wingers or two strikers upfront.
Vardy was superb playing in a two man attack, which worked well at Leicester City. With the likes of Ozil supplying passes to Vardy and Giroud next season, it’s looking like a title winning squad already.
