Arsenal seems to be in pole position to splash some huge amount of money on a player other than Jamie Vardy. The gunners have opened talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign 27 year old midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the ongoing talks seem to be positive. Following Arsenal’s interest in the Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, the club have decided to go all out for the Dortmund star who scored 21goals and made 20 assists in all competitions in the previous campaign.
The Armenian professional footballer and captain of the Armenia national team has always been a goal scoring midfielder. His goal scoring prowess was seen in Shaktar Donesk where he scored 38 times in 72 games and has even showed this ability for Dortmund on the flanks. It is no surprise that Arsenal is interested in adding a creative winger with end product following poor performance from the English duo Theo Walcott and Oxlade Chamberlain whilst Joel Campbell doesn’t seem to have earned his manager’s favour.
Arsene Wenger desires to have a blistering attack next season as the combination of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Mkhitaryan would be phenomenal.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder who would not be playing at the Euros would have the summer off and negotiations would continue to go on smoothly. Following his fantastic time with Tuchel, Mkhitaryan seems to be interested in a move to England after his club failed to insert a release clause in a new contract. Dortmund encouraged Arsenal’s pursuit of Mkhitaryan as it has been revealed that they put him up for sale to prevent him from going on a free transfer next summer.
Following the likely arrival of Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi’s promotion to the first team, it is possible a winger in the North London would make way and Campbell and Oxlade Chamberlain are likely to be the departers.
Also, interest from several other clubs including Chelsea means Arsenal will have to pay the discount fee of 23.5m pounds Dortmund demands.
