If you believe a report by ESPN, Arsenal may be on the verge of signing Riyad Mahrez. Espn who are regardly reliable when it comes to Transfer news are reporting Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to activate the 25 million release clause of the Algerian who had an incredible season last season for Leicester City.
The SUN, who are not to be trusted, had revealed Arsenal are planning a double swoop on Leicester City for both Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. The release clause of Jamie Vardy had already been activated and Arsenal are merely waiting for the player to make a decision on where he will be playing next season. Mkhitaryan is said to be Arsenal’s first choice for the right wing role but should Arsenal fail to get the Armenian, they will go for Mahrez.
Mahrez reportedly has a release clause which is put at £25 million which Arsenal are looking to activate if after doing everything to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan fails. The Algerian, should he join Arsenal, he will be a likely replacement for Theo Walcott who has himself has been linked with a move to Leicester City and Liverpool.
Mahrez, if he signs for Arsenal, will be a massive upgrade on Theo Walcott. His signing will also mean Alex Iwobi’s chance of first team football will be limited unless there is injuries.
