According to reports in Nigeria, North London giants Arsenal are close to completing a deal for Nigerian wonderkid Kelechi Nwakali. The youngster is set to finalize his move to Arsenal as he prepares to travel to London.
It has been reported that Arsenal had agreed a deal for the youngstrer since March but he was unable to sign for the London club due to FIFA regulations which prevents non-European Union players less than 18 years of age to sign football contracts.
Kelechi clocked 18 last Sunday, June 5th and he is now eligible to sign a professional contract with the North londoners.
Chief Executive Officer of his Academy, ASJ academy in Nigeria, Emeka Amajiriaku has revealed that the player and his agent are preparing to travel to London to seal the Nwakali’s move to Arsenal.
Amajiriaku speaking to allnigeriasoccer.com said,
“Kelechi donated to ASJ two sets of jerseys and Chidi donated 14 pairs of boots to mark his birthday,”.
“His absence was felt, Chidiebere decided to honor his brother, he hosted the birthday in his absence. All ASJ players clustered in his house in celebration of the birthday, everyone is happy.”
“I am speaking from the management angle, Kelechi is now 18. Allwell, Kelechi and his mother are preparing to travel to London to finish up the whole deal, to put everything right in conjunction with Diamond Academy.”
Kelechi Nwakali is presently on international duty with the Nigeria U-20 team and is expected to fly to London soon to sign a five year deal with Arsenal once he returns from international duty.
