British tabloid, the telegraph is reporting that Arsenal Legend Robert Pires has urged Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to sign England International and Everton defender John Stones, who has been heavily linked with a switch to Chelsea and Barcelona in recent months.
“Arsenal need English players; the Premier League is very physical. John Stones would be a good player for Arsenal. Can you imagine Stones and Koscielny at the back? It would be a good defence.” According to Robert Pires
Stones, 22, is has been regarded as one of the best defenders in England, with the bright playing career ahead of him, he has been heavily linked to top European club and would be a perfect addition to the Gunners. Sadly, the transfer fee could be a stumbling block for the Gunners, with Chelsea already seen £35 million plus rejected by Everton.
It is a well known fact that Arsenal need to sign a quality central defender in the summer transfer window, as ageing Per Mertesacker is slow and past his best, while Gabriel is yet to settle down properly at the Emirates. Calum Chambers is still young and can be classified a developing player, which leaves Arsenal with just Laurent Koscielny.
The combination of Koscielny and Mertesacker has proven over the time not good enough for Arsenal, and signing Stones as a replacement or cover Per could strengthen and make the squad capable of bringing titles in London.
In my opinion, Everton’s £60 million pounds asking is outrageous, and Arsenal should not pay for such. The Gunners should rather go for less expensive Manolas of Roma, Benatia of Bayern Munich.
