Nigerian U-20 talented midfielder Kelechi Nwakali will not be able to sign his new contract with Arsenal by the end of this month as expected.
Nwakali it was revealed had agreed personal terms with the North London club and was in line to sign a new contract with the club after turning 18 last month. The player was the star of the last U-17 World Cup in Chile last year which Nigeria won. His performance in the tournament had won him admirers and contracts in various big European clubs but it was that of Arsenal that interested him the most with the youngster revealing that Arsene Wenger history of trusting youngsters and giving them the chance was what won him over to Arsenal.
The midfielder according to his brother who acts as his intermidiary will not travel to Arsenal to sign the contract due to national commitments. Nwakali is said to be concentrating on the Nigeria U-20 AFCON qualifying game against Sudan hence the need for him to stay back until after the game before jetting to London to sign the highly anticipated contract.
The player’s brother had this to say , “Kelechi is supposed to sign this month after he clocked 18, but due to the national assignment he won’t be leaving immediately.
“As soon as they are through with the games against Sudan, he will move but if he (Nigeria U-20) coach can give him between two to three weeks he will travel.”
No matter how long it might take, the only thing in the mind of soccer loving Nigerian’s is that Nwakali joins Arsenal as soon as possible.
