Arsenal have followed up their interest of Albanian captain and Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj with a £14.8 million bid according to Le10 Sport via skysports. This is coming after the Albanian agent claimed Arsenal is not a step-up to Napoli hence his client will rather stay back in Southern Italy.
Hysaj has been hugely impressive for his country at the ongoing European tournament in France as the small and unknown footballing nation exceeded expectation by beating Romania and thus winning their first game in an international competition.
Hysaj is seen as an improvement on the likes of Mattieu Debuchy who spent the second half of last season on loan at Bordeaux, Calum Chambers -inconsistent and full of rash mistakes and Carl Jenkinson who has improved a lot after going twice on loan to West Ham for the past two seasons. Though the three mentioned players are not as poor as people may think but the only problem is that they are not at the level to play for a club challenging for top honours.
Hysaj will compete with youngster and Barcelona target Hector Bellerin who displaced Debuchy in 2015 January in the starting eleven and has gone on to not only improve but become a Spanish international. Debuchy it has been rumoured will be sold this summer as he is gradually advancing in age and may have passed his prime after playing the best football of his career in Newcastle before his signing in 2014 by Arsenal.
The signing of Hysaj might sound as an indication that Arsenal are ready to sell Hector Bellerin who is a graduate of Barcelona’s famed La Masia and has been linked with Barcelona as a replacement for Juventus bound Dani Alves but this has been refuted severally by Arsenal who insist the player is indispensable.
Hysaj if signed will be second choice for the Gunners and will push Bellerin to improve and then play in competitions like FA Cup, League Cup. This will enable Wenger to rest Bellerin in certain games and give the Gunners cover at the back.
