Squaka is reporting that Arsenal have tabled an official offer for £20m Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Mkhitaryan has been linked with a move to the English Premier League this this transfer window, with Arsenal one of several names mentioned to be interested in the attacker.
The Armenian International has a year left on his contract and German side Borussia Dortmund confirmed yesterday that the attacker has decided against signing a contract extension after negotiations over a new deal broke down between the player and the club.
According to The Express, Arsenal will have to battle the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea for the signature of the player but it seems Arsenal is in pole position to secure any deal. The Squaka reported that Arsenal are the only club to have submitted a formal offer so far.
Squaka did not categorically state how much Arsenal supposedly offered, but it’s been suggested that Mkhitaryan is valued at around £20m due to his contract status.
According to reports, Dortmund want to keep the Armenian to the final year of his contract and risk losing him for nothing next year..
Chief executive Hanz-Joachim Watzke told Guardian:
“We have been negotiating with Henrikh Mkhitaryan for four months for him to extend his contract with us.
“Now we know that it is not extended, it was never our commitment that Mkhitaryan may leave us prematurely.
“We have intensely discussed the question of an early transfer in all club bodies and came to the conclusion that Mkhitaryan will stay in Dortmund next season.”
The player’s agent has said that the player would prefer a move to Old Trafford but this is in contrast with Mkhitaryan himself who has previously indicated he’s a huge Arsenal fans.
With Champions league opportunity offered to him by Arsenal, the Gunners are sure in pole position, as against Chelsea and Manchester United.
