According to reports, Arsenal is now hopeful of completing the signing of another player from the Bundesliga, after earlier completing Ganit Xhaka’s deal in May.
Arsenal are now expected to strengthen their defensive options this summer, with the likes of Kieran Gibbs and Mathieu Debuchy likely to be offloaded, after failing to win the Premier League last season.
Ricardo Rodriguez, who plays for German side Wolfsburg, has been identified as one of Arsenal’s targets in Germany after signing his countryman Granit Xhaka in May.
Arsenal have made formal contact with German side Wolfsburg over 25 million Euros transfer deal for Swiss international Rodriguez which would be completed after the on-going European championship, with an agreement still pending, according to German source Bild.
Rodriguez, 23, has three more years remaining on his contract. The player is currently on duty with the Switzerland National team and had recently expressed his desire to leave Borussia Dortmund.
According to Wolfsburg’s Sporting director Klaus Allofs, the club was ready to sell Rodriguez and former Arsenal target Gustavo to the highest bidder this summer.
Allofs said, “We are on the alert and we are prepared [to sell]. They [Ricardo Rodriguez and Luiz Gustavo] will not get cheaper, rather the opposite.”
