According to reports, Arsenal will have to see battle it out with their English Premier Leaguerivals and one of the Champions League finalists if they hope to bring Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette to the Emirate stadium.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Gunners are believed to have joined London rivals West Ham United and champions league finalist Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette as Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal considers alternatives for Leicester striker Jamie Vardy.
The England international striker reportedly rejected the chance to join Arsenal and instead chose to sign a new deal with the Premier League champions. According to the Mirror, Wenger appears to have been well prepared for the possibility of Vardy refusing to join Arsenal, having already switched his attention to the Frenchman.
Reports from British tabloid the Mirror says that Wenger is set to begin talks with one of the Lacazette’s representatives next week.
It’s believed that Lacazette, 25, will not come cheap as the Ligue 1 side is set to have slapped a £45m price tag on him, and that fee could surely rise further if a bidding war starts between the three clubs reportedly chasing the French striker.
The French international striker has scored 48 league goals in the last two seasons, including 27 during the 2014-15 campaign when he finished as the top scorer.
The arrival of the Frenchman would surely appease many fans that have been left angry following the lack of new signings made in recent years.
But my candid opinion is that the asking £45 million asking price is outrageous, and I don’t think Wenger will spend so much in such a striker. Arsenal will be better off spending so much on Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain.
