With Jamie Vardy rejecting the offer from Arsenal and choosing to instead remain at Leicester City by signing a new contract with the Foxes, Arsenal have since then been linked with the signing of various strikers. And for obvious reasons, Arsenal certainly would have won the league last season if they had a clincal striker putting away the numerous chances Ozil and co create.
However, one of Arsenal’s reported main targets for this summer, Michy Batshuayi is on his way to Chelsea after the Blues had a bid of £33.2m accepted for the Belgian. The high rated striker has always been linked with a move to Arsenal even before he signed for Marseille and it was thought that after Vardy rejected us, Wenger has asked Marseille for his availability.
Unfortunately the 22-year-old striker is now to have his medical with Chelsea and should he be successful, he will sign for the Blues. Although £33.2m is certainly a big amount for a 22-year-old striker who was just the third highest goal scorers in the French League last season, but Arsenal can’t continue to expect the market to be played to their terms.
The goalpost has moved and it is time Arsenal accepts that for a fact. We are certainly not going to be getting a striker this summer unless we are ready to pay the ongoing rate or if we are going to be contended with an unknown quality.
