Remember when Arsenal unexpectedly signed Mesut Ozil and not only broke their transfer record but smashed it? Arsenal are set to shock the world again. According to reports, the Gunners have made contact with Tottenham about the availability of the star, Dele Alli according to reports from the Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.
He went further to claimed that the Gunners are interested in a move for the 20-year-old following a season in which he was awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
Alli burst onto the scene in 2015-16 for Spurs, scoring 10 goals and notching 11 assists as he helped guide the north London club to a third place finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League football next season.
It prompted the Telegraph to write a report quoting a Tottenham source in which it was claimed that White Hart Lane chairman Levy ‘would not even sell Dele Alli for £100 million’ this summer.
Transfer guru Giulianelli posted the Gunners’ apparent interest on his personal Twitter account on Monday. He wrote: “Arsenal have asked Tottenham info about Dele Alli.”
Arsenal have already secured the signing of Granit Xhaka this summer for £33million as Arsene Wenger looks to build on an already-strong central midfield unit.
The move may anger Tottenham fans who won’t be happy to see one of their star men linked with a move to their arch rivals. Alli has five years remaining on his contract and it is likely that only a whopping fee would be enough to tempt Levy to cash in on the youngster.
Tottenham have a history of losing their star players over the last few years as both Luka Modric and Gareth Bale have left the club in big-money moves abroad.
