Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to not get left in the wake of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho’s impending spending sprees at the Manchester clubs, and he is ready to break the bank for Bayern Munich full-back, David Alaba.
The Austria defender featured in the European championship, and is reportedly valued at £40m and is a regular starter for the German Bundesliga team at the age of 24. At the moment, no huge outlets are really running with Arsenal, but the Alaba himself admitted just this month that he was a huge fan of Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira growing up.
Alaba, who is often deployed in defensive midfield, revealed that he was a big fan of the Arsenal ‘invincible’ side, and held particular admiration for their captain and midfield powerhouse Patrick Vieira.
With this piece of information, Arsenal Faithfull’s will be hopeful that sooner or later, Alaba to Arsenal could materialize.
It does appear as if Arsenal are in the transfer market for a new left-back, which Alaba primarily is, but whether the Arsenal hierarchy are interested in him specifically remains to be seen.
Arsenal fans probably shouldn’t read too much meaning into that statement, and with the player now a prominent player at the club, a move away looks less and less likely.
