Having concluded the transfer of Borussia Monchengladbach captain Granit Xhaka last month, the Gunners seem to have set their sights on another captain of an European club.
Arsenal are desperate in pursuit of a new striker following the injury to England international striker Danny Welbeck and the failed attempt to lure Leicester City star Jamie Vardy to the North London club.
The Gunners are reportedly set to submit an offer in the region of £32 million for Serie A giant Inter Milan’s star striker and captain Mauro Icardi according to a report by TalkSport and several other outlets.
Icardi, 23, who scored 16 goals in 33 games in the Serie A last season, has three years remaining on his contract at the San Siro club.
This is the second time the Gunners are thought to have made a move for Icardi after seeing a £23m for the player bid turned down last summer.
It’s been reported that Premier league club Manchester United have also made an enquiry for the Argentine striker, however, sport news outlet Sky Sports have now named Icardi as the ‘most likely’ target to join Arsenal.
