Newcastles’s Sissoko has always stated he would be open to an Arsenal move should the opportunity present itself. But if there is any department Arsenal is not falling short in, is the midfield area.
Sissoko who is tipped to leave relegated side Newcastle to the second tier last season has been linked with a number of top-flight clubs – most recently Liverpool. Sissoko has been under Wenger’s radar over the years and this might be a good opportunity for Wenger to snap up the £21million rated player.
With a wealth of talented midfielders like Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Carzola, Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez, most Arsenal fans will be wondering why the club needs to invest in an average midfield player. The 26-year-old French International as a player has the pace and power to burst through the lines into attack, and is able to shine either in the centre of midfield or on the right wing. But this is nothing of added value to the current Arsenal side as they have established players starting and vying for this position.
Sissoko has spent two-and-a-half seasons with Newcastle to date, scoring 12 goals and laying on 19 assists in 133 appearances; and reaching his prime years at 26, this level of inconsistency should be a major red flag for Arsenal and Wenger. Arsenal fans will not be looking forward to the addition of a midfilder with lack of work rate and defensive quality.
Sissoko will be one transfer target Arsenal fans won’t lose sleep over if he moves to Anfield to unite with Jurgen Klopp. And if you believe ESPN, the Reds are already winning the race to sign the player and he will undergo a medical with the Anfield club this week.
