After finishing runners-up to Leicester City, Wenger is set to build on last season’s momentum to push for a Premier league title bid. In other to achieve this Wenger has to make major signings in departments like defence and attack.
With the likes of both Manchester clubs and Chelsea investing heavily in their club’s, Wenger has identified Napoli’s rugged defender Kalidou Koulibaly as a potential defence partner for Laurent Koscielny. The highly-rated 25-year-old defender has also attracted serious interests from Bayern Munich and Manchester United, while Chelsea have already tabled a bid.
According to reports from La Gazzetta Dello Sportt, Arsenal have enquired about Koulibaly early this week and have been informed that Napoli will only listen to offers around £40m for the defender.
Arsenal fans would be dreaming about a Koscielny- Koulibaly partnership, as Koulibaly is quick on his feet and powerful defender, who has won six caps for Senegal since making his international debut last year. He made 33 Serie A appearances last season, helping Napoli finish second behind Juventus.
Koulibaly is definitely set to leave Napoli as he couldn’t agree terms with the club over his contract extension. It’s only a matter of time before he completes his move to Arsenal as his agent is currently negotiating his severance package with Napoli.
