Arsenal transfer in the cards as player lands for medical
ARSENAL goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has arrived in Italy to complete his move to Roma. The 26-year-old Poland international landed at Fiumicino Airport in the Italian capital at 10.50am local time.
The Polish is set to undergo a medical later today and will join the Italian club on a season-long loan however, there is no a permanent option on his contract with Roma, according to reports coming from Italy.
Szczesny however, spent almost the last campaign with the Italian outfit but according to gossips, the goalkeeper could make his switch to the Italian capital a permanent one from the Gunners this time around.
The Polish flourished well while on a loan move at Roma after going through a difficult season with Arsenal, which saw him, dropped for David Ospina.
The arrival of Czech international goalkeeper Petr Cech from the Chelsea last summer was believed to be the final nail in his coffin, which saw him sent out on a loan move to Rome.
The Italian club will be paying £46,000-a-week wages and hand Arsenal an £840,000 loan fee. After landing at the airport, he said, “I’m fine, and I’m happy to be back.”
Szcesny spent last season on loan at the Stadio Olimpico and made 42 appearances in all competitions.
The Poland international fell out of favour at Arsenal after being caught smoking in the showers following the 2-0 defeat to Southampton in January 2015.
Szcesny’s last appearance for Arsenal was the 4-0 win over Aston Villa in the 2015 FA Cup final.
