Barcelona and Belgium centre-back Thomas Vermaeloen has joined Italian club AS Roma on loan for the upcoming 2016/17 season.
The former Arsenal centre-back the team Captain made his move to the Italian capital at the weekend to undergo a medical and the La Liga champions.

This much was confirmed yesterday afternoon confirmed that the two club had agreed to an agreement, which will see the Belgian international up with the Roma for the upcoming season.
Roma however, at the end of the upcoming campaign will have the opportunity to purchase the Belgian international probably on a permanent deal.
An official statement from Barca website via the Skysports read,
“Barcelona and Roma have reached an agreement for the loan of Thomas Vermaelen for the 2016/17 season.”
“The agreement includes an option for Roma to buy the player at the end of that season.”
Vermaelen departure from the Nou Camp outfits must have comes after a difficult two-year spell for the Belgian since he left the Gunners in a £15million deal in the summer of 2014.
Also, he also faced a series of injuries which have restricted him to just 21 games appearance for the La Liga champions in all competitions in Spain.
The Fomer Arsenal player had signed a five-year contract with Barca, but was unable to make his first-team debut until the final match of his first season after he underwent thigh surgery.
