Arsenal former skipper and fans most favourite player Lucas Podolski has reportedly announced his retirement from international football with Germany today.

Podolski, earlier in his career, was eligible to play for Germany and Poland but decided to choose to play for Germany and he earned his first cap with the Germany in 2004.

The current Galatasaray forward played a part of the squad in all major  tournament since he won his first cap with Germany, he was also part of the squad that triumph at the 2014 FIFA World Cup when the manager Joachim Low’s defeated Argentina to lift the famous trophy.

Despite the fact that the German was a regular on the bench during the European championship in France, he became the third most-capped German player in history according to report recently with 129 caps.

He is also regarded as the third-highest goalscorer in the German history bagged 48 times for the country and he has now decided to call it a day after clocking 31 and thanking his fans for their keen support on Monday.

According to report, he is said to follow the footsteps of Bastian Schweinsteiger, after the Manchester United midfielder who also retired recently from the international set-up after a glittering career.
