Arsenal Banter brings you latest update on Arsenal news from top media sites like Daily Mail, Metro, The Express, The Independent, The Telegraph, SkySports and so on.
Jamie Redknapp has hailed Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi as a potential great centre-back pairing.
The duo were paired for fourth time together in Arsenal’s 3-0 Premier League win over Chelsea on Saturday and contributed to the first team clean in that time.
Koscielny has been partnered by Per Mertesacker and Gabriel for most of the last two seasons, and there was often a softness to the team’s defender.
But pundit and ex-midfielder Redknapp saw signs at the weekend of a really solid partnership developing between the France international and the summer signing from Valencia.
“Arsenal have won plenty of plaudits for their attacking play against Chelsea but I was so impressed with how sound they were defensive,” Redknapp wrote in his Mail column.
“Their centre backs have been too easily bullied in recent years by Didier Drogba and Diego Costa. On Saturday afternoon, Shkodran Mustafi wasn’t having any of it.
“He showed so much quality alongside Laurent Koscielny and for the first time in a long time it looks like Arsenal have found a great centre-back partnership.
“The pair are both quick and good in the air. They are strong in both boxes and will threaten from set pieces, too.
“Mustafi hasn’t found it easy adapting to the Premier League since his move from Valencia – Saturday was his first clean sheet in an Arsenal shirt -but after this display his confidence should soar.”
The Gunners’ win over Chelsea was their third straight league win and lifted them to third in table, behind only Tottenham and pacesetters Manchester City.
