Arsenal are reportedly considering a transfer move for Greece international Kosta Manolas as Per Mertesacker’s contract nears its end with the Gunners, according to reports coming from Spain.
The Greek centre-back has notched up 97 appearances for Roma since he made his debut for the Serie A giants back in 2014 but the it’s believed that the 25-year-old defender has consistently been linked with a move to the Premier League – to Arsenal precisely – in recent months.
However, it’s believed Serie A giants is stalling over a new deal at the Stadio Olimpico and the Gunners could also be set to test Roma’s resolve as they scour the market for potential replacements for Mertesacker.
Mertesacker, 32, whose contract will come to an end with Arsenal at the end of the season is expected to depart from the club also at the end of the season, with his former club Werder Bremen and Hannover both said to be interested in the veteran German.
And Sport suggest Manolas remains firmly on the radar of the north London outfit despite them signing Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia this summer.
Towards the end of September, Manolas agent Ioannis Evangelopoulos revealed: ‘There was strong interest in Kostas from top clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United in the summer.
‘I am sure those clubs are still watching him.’
