Arsene Wenger is ready to fight back at Jose Mourinho for eyeing German star by making a move for winger. Arsenal will go to war with Manchester United over Mesut Ozil — by targeting Jesse Lingard.
SunSport told last month how United boss Jose Mourinho is set to move for the Emirates contract rebel, who has just 18 months left on his deal.
Interest in the German, 28, is certain to anger the Gunners. But they are ready to fight back by offering Lingard a double-your-money salary.
The England winger, 23, also has a deal expiring at the end of next season and is firmly in Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger’s sights. He could pick up £120,000-a-week with a move to North London, with a fresh deal at Old Trafford yet to be sorted.
Wenger will have no problem offering one of England’s brightest young talents the hefty six-figure weekly wage.
But he has not been able to agree new terms with star men Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean forward, 27, has teams in China willing to pay him £1.6million per month to ditch the Premier League for the Far East.
And United will be able to pay Ozil at least £300,000 a week if he agrees to make a controversial switch to Mourinho’s side.
The Special One worked with Ozil at Real Madrid and the pair enjoy a healthy relationship. They won the Spanish title together and arrived and departed in the same summers at the Bernabeu.
Mourinho will be aware Ozil’s market value will drop in the summer, when he has just a year left on his Gunners deal. The club will then risk losing him on a free transfer the following summer if no deal is agreed.
Wenger will be forced to fight tooth and nail to keep his star pair, who have been vital in their recent revival.
