Arsenal Banter brings you latest update on Arsenal news from top media sites like Daily Mail, Metro, The Express, The Independent, The Telegraph, SkySports and so on.
According to reports, Manchester United’s Memphis Depay is reportedly edging close to finalizing his transfer from Old Trafford to Arsenal after an improved bis from the Gunners have reportedly been made.
The Netherlands international has been the subject of the headlines this January after barely featuring for the Red Devils in Jose Mourinho’s first-team so far this season, with league rivals also listed among his suitors.
However, it now seems Emirates Stadium will be his next destination as the Gunners look closest to giving United an acceptable amount for a player seen as massively underachieving at Old Trafford.
Depay only joined the Red Devils at the start of last season, but United suggested they were ready to let him go quickly if they received an offer close to the £25million-plus they were thought to have paid PSV for him.
‘The latest is that the offer that we have had is far from being reasonable for us. At the moment, he is our player and if in the end (of the transfer window) nothing happens, he is one more option for us,’ Mourinho said last week.
Arsenal reportedly failed with an opening bid of £13million, but the Daily Mirror report they are now closing in on the 22-year-old and could sign him before the end of the week after upping their bid.
United have been embarking on something of a squad clear-out this month, having also offloaded midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton.
