Arsenal have begun negotiation with Aaron Ramsey as part of an effort to bypass a repeat next summer of the doubt over the future of so many key players.
Ramsey’s situation is most urgent. At 26, he is likely to be the hottest property in the transfer market but, more importantly, appears crucial to Wenger’s plan.
The change to a 3-4-2-1 formatio at the end of the last season worked in Arsenal’s favor defensively but the major highlight was how Ramsey came fully into himself in a more liberated central midfield role and ultimately scored the winning FA Cup final goal.
His contract ends in 2019 and, having penned an extension in 2014 that increased his wage in excess of £100,000-a-week, will be offered a new deal that will preserve his status as one of the club’s top earners.
