Arsenal have had a bid to sign Alexandre Lacazette rejected by Lyon – but the Gunners are still hopeful Alexis Sanchez will sign a new contract with the north London side, according to BBC reporter David Ornstein.
In an article published on the BBC Sport website, Ornstein claims that Arsenal remain in negotiations with Lyon about the possibility of signing 26-year-old forward Lacazette this summer.
The same story also states that Arsenal are “less likely” to sign midfielder Thomas Lemar from Monaco after having also had an initial bid turned down by the French club.
Ornstein writes that any of Arsenal’s transfer activity is likely to be tied to the future of Sanchez, who has 12 months left to run on his current deal.
The Gunners are reportedly willing to let Sanchez to leave The Emirates for the right price – but the north London side are still hopeful of getting the 28-year-old to sign a new deal with Arsenal and commit his future to the club.
Sanchez was Arsenal’s top scorer last season and helped to fire the Gunners to their third FA Cup title in four years.
Like Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, his current deal at The Emirates is due to expire at the end of next season.
