Arsenal are reportedly keen to let defender Mathieu Debuchy go on a free transfer this summer, with the Frenchman not included in their plans for the forthcoming season.
According to talkSPORT, Arsenal are willing to pay off the last two years of his contract in order to move him off to his desired club. The Gunners bought him for £12m from Newcaslte back in 2014, where he has since raked in £6m-a-year.
Unlikely to accept less than his contract fee, Arsenal could be losing more than £20m on a player who only played 23 games across all competitions since he came to the club three years ago. Injuries and his inconsistent form kept Debuchy sidelined for most part of career at the Emirates, but his reluctance to seek an exit will irk manager Arsene Wenger.
The 31-year-old, who made just one appearance for the Arsenal first-team, featuring three times for the reserves, has refused to go out on loan and has rejected permanent offers from clubs in order to stay at the Emirates. And now the Londoners are considering paying off his contract to have him leave permanently.
Arsenal will have lost the £12m transfer fee and may have to spend in excess of £10m for Debuchy to accept a mutual termination of his contract.
