Arsenal will make a bid for long-term target Karim Benzema from Real Madrid if Alexis Sanchez move out of the Emirates this summer.
That’s per the Express, who believe the Gunners are preparing a deal worth £50m for the French international in anticipation of the forthcoming season. But with a former Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette arriving at the Emirates Stadium in a club record deal of £52m, it is quite hard to see Arsenal spending a similar fee for another one.
Benzema would be a great addition to the squad, however, bagging an impressive 180 goals in 365 appearances for Real Madrid. But it is unlikely he would leave, let alone agree to a deal with Arsenal. Alexis Sanchez has been told he is not leaving so Arsenal shouldn’t have to find a replacement for an attacker.
With Real Madrid winning the Spanish La Liga title and retaining their Champions League trophy, it is unknown why Benzema would want to leave the Santiago Bernabeu, nor would Real accept a £50m bid for him.
Arsenal have Olivier Giroud, Alexandre Lacazette and Danny Welbeck as striking options entering into the new season. Arsene Wenger is likely to be satisfied with that.
