Marseille are reportedly still keen to make an offer for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud this summer as they monitor his contract situation at the Emirates Stadium.
The 30-year-old registered little playing time last season and will find his position at a risk even more this term with the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette up front, as well as Alexis Sanchez surprisingly not leaving the club.
The Gunners will see Giroud as a useful squad player and a reliable performer on the pitch, as he performed well in more of a super-sub role last season.
Still, the France international has caught the attention of several clubs this summer as his future has looked uncertain, with West Ham and Everton said to be his biggest admirers in the Premier League.
While the former Montpellier man seems unruffled at the moment, Marseille will examine his situation again if he fails to become a regular in the early part of this season before the end of the transfer window at the end of August.
Arsene Wenger recently insisted Giroud would remain in north London, saying he’d responded well to the extra competition from Lacazette.
‘Giroud fancies the competition. As a manager, you have him on your back, wanting to play,’ Wenger said last week.
‘He fights hard, you know. I like the way he responds to what’s happening. He is focused and determined and showed that on the (pre-season) tour.’
