Arsenal are reportedly confident that they have made a major breakthrough in contract negotiations with Mesut Ozil. with terms possibly being agreed on a new deal.
Speculations have abound over the futures of the likes of Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all through the summer, with several players in the final year of their current deal.
However, according to The Sun, Ozil’s situation could be on the verge of coming to a clarification as it’s claimed that the German international has implied to the Gunners that he’s ready to sign a new contract provided it would be worth £225,000-a-week.
Arsene Wenger has remained confident throughout that none of his key players would be leaving, and it seems as his effort has paid off with Ozil, at least as the report adds that the player has failed to get any genuine interest from around Europe due to the fee demanded by the 28-year-old.
Fears have been growing that those personal named above could be at the risk of leaving on a free transfer next summer, but Arsenal will hope they will be convinced to recommit their future to the club before the end of the coming campaign.
Ozil is expected to play against Leicester City in the season opener on Friday night, and he may well be about handing the north London side a timely boost with confirmation that he is ready to extend.
Naturally, the wait will go on until it becomes an official deal, but it’s always been felt as though the former Real Madrid man would be the easier task out of the group in question to persuade to sign a new deal, especially with no real interest in his signature emerging.
That has seemingly now come through, and all concerned at Arsenal will certainly be hoping that Sanchez does the same in the coming weeks, as his future is undoubtedly the more complicated of the two.
