Southampton are insisting that Virgil van Dijk is not for sale this summer,
Van Dijk has been trying to get Southampton to sell him all summer but has failed in persuading them to let him go. By this point, he has pretty much tried everything. According to the Telegraph, Southampton are obstinate that the Dutch defender will not be sold in the coming days despite the pressure they’re under.
With the transfer deadline coming up in four days’ time, Southampton are bracing themselves for bids of £50m or more from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. Arsenal have also been linked, but apparently don’t see signing this summer him as a good transfer decision and want to wait until a later transfer window.
They had better hope he remain in Southampton till they get ready to bring him to the Emirates. Van Dijk submitted a transfer request to the club and released a public statement expressing his frustration at this situation. He feels he should be allowed to transfer to a bigger club, but Southampton are holding him to the six year contract that he penned just last season.
Arsenal could greatly benefit from a commanding central defender given they currently sit 16th in the Premier League, having conceded eight goals in three games, while selling Gabriel and potentially Shkodran Mustafi.
