Arsenal could now make a move to sign in-demand Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri after agreeing deal to sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool, according to reports.
The Gunners have said their goodbyes to Oxlade-Chamberlain following agreement of a £40m (€43.7m) deal with Liverpool and the midfielder will undergo a medical with the Reds this evening.
The Gunner may now look to carry out business of their own before the transfer window slams shut. Indeed, according to Guardian Sport’s Ed Aarons, there is now a good chance that Arsenal may take a step to take him off the market.
Seri has been a transfer target for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Roma all through the summer. Barca were close to signing him but withdrew the move at the last minute.
Nice are reluctant to sell Seri and will demand a high price if they are to let him leave.
The midfielder did have a private release clause with Nice set at the €40m mark, but the club maintain it was only valid until the middle of July.
As such, Arsenal may have to take out more than €40m from their purse to sign Seri.
