Arsenal pair Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere are reportedly close to signing a new deal for the club.
Both players, due to their contract running out this summer, are able to negotiate with foreign teams from this month.
Ozil was widely expected to say his goodbyes at the Emirates Stadium in the summer when officially becoming a free agent, while talks with Wilshere were said to have reached an impasse over financial terms.
According to The Sun, however, Arsenal have been handed a major boost as the midfield duo has informed Arsene Wenger that they want to retain their position in the North London club for the foreseeable future.
Ozil is understood to be requesting a pay rise on his £150,000-a-week wages, but Wilshere has to make due with a reduced salary if he is to stay on.
A source is quoted by the news outlet as saying: “Mesut loves it here. He loves living in London and has made it clear he wants to stay.
“Jack is Arsenal through-and-through and wants to become club captain next season. He wants to be a legend. They’ve both got the contracts on the table and there’s not much else to iron out really. They should be all sorted soon.”
Wenger has come under fire due to the number of players out of contract in the coming months, with Alexis Sanchez seizing the opportunity by forcing through a move to Manchester United.
