Deal Done – Arsenal star player bids fans goodbye, completes £43m move

Arsenal Banter brings you latest update on Arsenal news from top media sites like Daily Mail, Metro, The Express, The Independent, The Telegraph, SkySports and so on.

Spanish newspaper AS dropped a small but very important snippet in their Tuesday edition which claims Emiliano Martinez is on his way to pen a deal for Leeds United.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been on loan this season at Getafe but has appeared in three La Liga games as a back-up to Vicente Guaita, who has been a target for Crystal Palace during the current window.

Martinez has previously been on loan at Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Wolves, meaning he is well experienced in English football, something Leeds United will surely have taken note of.

Arsenal have Petr Cech and David Ospina as their main goalkeepers and there’s been no way through for Martinez since he signed for the club in 2010.

Leeds have struggled to decide on a first choice this season. It probably would have been better for Thomas Christiansen to plump for Felix Wiedwald and keep it that way, but then turning to Andy Lonergan didn’t solve anything other than make the German goalkeeper more unsettled when he returned.

AS didn’t explain whether Martinez will be signed as a first choice goalkeeper or as a back-up, and there’s no mention of any potential buying option from Arsenal.
